Have you been Feeling Depressed Lately?

Let's face it, life get's hard. And sometimes you are overcome with negative emotions and doubts about this world. You are not alone, and it might not be so easy to cheer up.
For some this can be very hard to overcome, uncontrollable. When you are feeling like this, do not ignore it, take action and be strong.

This past fall my mood gradually declined as the days got shorter. By December I was probably in the lowest lows I have ever been in my life. I couldn't explain my loss in motivation or overall depressed mood. Nothing was really wrong in my life. In fact, some would say I am very blessed. I was healthier than I'd ever been, exercising 4 times a week, eating a balanced diet, but something was up.

A visit to the doctor shed some light on the situation. I was being affected by Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). The gradual decrease in day light was affecting my serotonin and melatonin levels. SAD is a real thing, and affects about 20% of US citizens during the winter seasons. Studies have shown that darker eye colors are more likely affected. The lack of natural sunlight can strongly effect all creatures in this world. This includes humans.

My doctor set me up with a special light that emits rays that mimic the sun. Not just any light will do, mind you. I also got an increase in vitamin D supplements.
After 3 weeks of using the light twice a day for 30 minutes, I can honestly say that I have much better control over my emotions. Just after a week my negative thoughts decreased. I feel safer now.
